IN-CLASS TOPIC DISCUSSION: FINDING THE RIGHT ONE?

Finding the right one? Well... there's only one way; You gotta meet as many people as you can. And you should remember there's no "PERFECT" one for you in the whole universe. Finding the right one is like a compromise: at some point, you've got to give up your firm criteria, and learn how to settle for the reality. And then, look around! You are now able to see good people who were invisible out of your prejudice and vanity.

SPEED DATING RECORDING

Girl : Can I ask you questions out of this paper?

Me : Yeah, let's just put it away, shall we?

Girl : When did you go to the military?

Me : Umm... I went to military in 2012 February. (My bad, it was 2013)
And I retired like 4 months ago.

Girl: Was there any difficult experience?

Me: Yeah, like everything!
You have your boss, and they're younger than you!
And they keep saying bad things about you.

Girl: They're younger...?

Me: Yeah, they're younger, but they're like... "You go XXXX(bad words)"

Girl: Woah! O_o
      How did you feel?

Me: I felt like I could kill them with a knife and smash their heads on the block! lol

Girl: But there was no...?

Me: Nothing happened. lol
I had to say, "No, sir-"

Girl: But as the time went by you -

Me: Yeah, I get a promotion but I still had hard times because the... 간부(officers) won't let me... leave me alone, like they are... um... they think I'm a trouble maker, which is I'm really not. Because they think I bully my servants(Couldn't think of "subordinate")? NOT SERVANTS! LOL

Girl: Is there a very difficult training?

Me: Yeah, we have to walk like more than 5 hours and climb the mountains
with so much pounds on your shoulder and everything.
Let's just skip it. I don't wanna talk about it. What about you?
      Umm... I've been always wondering,
don't people say you look like "고아라(actress)"?

Girl: I heard that!

Me: Many times?

Girl: Just 2...

Me: Maybe you have coloured eyes like her-

(AND THEN TIME'S UP)

LIFE AFTER THE MILITARY SERVICE

I've got discharged on November 17, 2014.
When I was in the army, I had so much things that I wanted to do on my mind,
but all routines and bad memories in the army eventually led to some kind of depression even after the retirement, so basically I couldn't do ANYTHING
for a month or two.

I did feel bad for this meaningless time though.
I didn't feel like doing anything, but didn't want the time to go by either.
And I just couldn't get out of this swamp of depression.
So that's why I decided to take a solitary trip.
I thought I needed my own time to look back my life.

I saw, heard and experienced many things.
I realised how stupid I was, wasting my time in my room and
letting these awesome things just pass me by.

And I met lots of new people there.
They were total strangers but somehow we hit it off.
I thought I wasn't really a people person but I found out I was.

I really enjoyed that time,
but as the end of my trip came upon, I got depressed again.
But then something stroke my head.

"Everything in the universe has an end, but don't you feel
sorry about it. You must enjoy it to the fullest because there's an end.
There will be no regret if you were more than happy at that time."

Since then, I wasn't sad anymore and got back to myself.
I started to do things that I wanted to do right after the trip.
And now I'm thankful for everything that's given to me.

ALAN WATTS - Conversation With Myself

  • a Short Description
- This lecture is about the attitude and concept our human beings should have for the nature, and the big problems in the world we are now faced with. According to him, we're trying to "rectify" things the nature should take care of by itself, which only results in a mess.

  • Why you find it interesting
- You might think this is boring and too long, but I had some improvements in listening English by transcribing this video. And it enhanced my confidence also!

  • Language learning points
- First of all, His speech speed is slow enough to follow and the sentences are rather brief and short, (so you probably will get used to listening English) but remember, this is a 30 minutes lecture of heavy subjects; but not so hard to understand! So once you transcribe this video, perhaps you will be no longer afraid of listing English and also learn many new vocabularies.
