ALAN WATTS - Conversation With Myself

  • a Short Description
- This lecture is about the attitude and concept our human beings should have for the nature, and the big problems in the world we are now faced with. According to him, we're trying to "rectify" things the nature should take care of by itself, which only results in a mess.

  • Why you find it interesting
- You might think this is boring and too long, but I had some improvements in listening English by transcribing this video. And it enhanced my confidence also!

  • Language learning points
- First of all, His speech speed is slow enough to follow and the sentences are rather brief and short, (so you probably will get used to listening English) but remember, this is a 30 minutes lecture of heavy subjects; but not so hard to understand! So once you transcribe this video, perhaps you will be no longer afraid of listing English and also learn many new vocabularies.

  1. I wonder about some of the words and discussion that students might be interested in.

    1. The main discussion in this video is whether we can change the nature and sort out problems in it by anything WE call acting or willing. For example, can we solve food problems by genetically modified foods? Maybe yes, but are we sure there are no problems?... Maybe we could discuss these kind of topics... :)

There were 3 phrasal verbs that have same meaning
      Get (something) straightened out
      Get (something) ironed out.
      Get (something) squared away
      - to sum up, to make something brief.
